UMC East Tower
Lubbock, TX
About the project
The University Medical Center East Tower exterior structure reflects existing campus buildings by incorporating composite metal panels and precast concrete. The addition consists of four floors, each totaling 44,500 SF, and connects to the existing building via two corridors on the 1st and 2nd floors. The 1st floor contains 10 private NICU rooms, several multi-bed NICU rooms, 17 labor and delivery rooms, a 4-bed recovery bay, a 6-bed triage bay, a family education classroom, and support and administration space. The 2nd floor consists of a 22-bed nursery unit, 34 postpartum rooms, 10 antepartum rooms, and two administration spaces. The addition also includes state-of-the-art technology for patients’ vitals, lighting, and increased security, including the infant security system on the 1st and 2nd floor. The third and fourth floors are designated as shell space for future expansion. A circle drive provides a convenient drop-off site near the building’s new single main entrance and has up-front maternity parking.
