The Monahans High School addition and renovation project, funded through the $140 million 2019 Bond, encompassed the construction of approximately 170,000 SF of new space and the renovation of nearly 24,000 SF. This comprehensive transformation aimed to replace or modernize all buildings over 50 years old, creating contemporary learning environments while integrating significant safety and security enhancements.
Key upgrades include a new 700-seat auditorium, black box theatre, dressing rooms, and scene shop storage to support and encourage the fine arts programs. Other additions include a choir room, an art room, and a fully enclosed hallway connecting the renovated band hall. The library, cafeteria, and kitchen were entirely rebuilt, alongside new flooring, ceilings, energy-efficient windows, and upgraded exterior doors throughout. All buildings now feature secure entry points, electronic classroom door locks, video surveillance, and advanced safety measures.
Athletic improvements include a state-of-the-art natatorium, competition gym with seating for 700, and includes two new boys’ locker rooms and two new girls’ locker rooms, practice gym, football fieldhouse with media room and indoor practice field, baseball fieldhouse and press box, softball fieldhouse, 10 new tennis courts, a band marching pad and renovations to the existing field house with new shower facilities and locker rooms. In addition, four new asphalt parking lots were added.
The revitalized campus is designed to accommodate up to 700 students, with space for future expansion. This state-of-the-art campus provides a safe, modern environment designed to support academic achievement, artistic expression, and athletic excellence while meeting the district's growing needs.
