Lubbock ISD - Coronado High School
Lubbock, TX
About the project
Coronado High School underwent significant cafeteria and gymnasium renovations aimed at increasing capacity and enhancing functionality. To expand the cafeteria, four classrooms and several offices adjacent to the original space were relocated to existing portables on campus. This expansion increased seating capacity from 432 to over 800 students, while the kitchen gained an additional 600 SF. The upgraded cafeteria now features seven diverse food service lines, flat-screen TVs, round tables, and more comfortable seating areas, creating a modern, college-style dining experience.
The gymnasium and auditorium also received substantial upgrades. A new secure entrance was added to both facilities, enhancing campus safety. The auditorium was renovated to improve acoustics and seating while maintaining the school’s architectural and cultural heritage. Gym improvements included the installation of padded, fabric-covered seats, replacing the original wooden ones, refinished flooring with epoxy resin and carpeting, repaired and repainted walls and ceilings, and the addition of acoustic control devices for better sound quality.
These extensive renovations were funded as part of Lubbock’s $198 million bond passed in 2010, ensuring that Coronado High School continues to provide a high-quality environment for students and staff.
