The Lamplighter School - Outdoor Learning Center

Dallas, TX

About the project

Lamplighter's new Outdoor Learning Center opened in May 2023 offering its 470 students an imaginative playscape full of playful learning opportunities. The space was designed using the theme of "WONDER," inspiring students to strengthen their motor skills and imaginations through creative play. The result is an expansive playground spanning several separate areas linked together by the common theme of the wonderful garden, which includes a 7-meter-tall Mother Tree, the Wondering Worm, popping up from under the ground, a double dandelion zip slide, cloud swings, and fun playhouses.

The Mother Tree was designed as an educational setting incorporating fun play features and integrated seating in an engaging environment. The large open space inside the tree comfortably accommodates an entire class and teacher but also provides a great space for more reflective, solitary learning and play. The Wondering Worm serves as a seating area that can be used for school classes and the tail-end is fun to climb on. Each play element was custom designed, for The Lamplighter School by MONSTRUM playground designers, in Denmark.
