Irving ISD - MAHI

Irving, TX

About the project

The Magda A. Hernández Institute of Wellness and Professional Learning (MAHI) is a one-of-a-kind facility serving to enhance professional learning and wellness for all Irving ISD staff. Located alongside Singley Academy and the Elise Walker Outdoor Learning Center, this two-story building showcases a flexible layout and a unique biophilic design that highlights the nature preserve to the north. The institute offers a welcoming environment for the community to integrate wellness into daily life and district culture.

The center features a meditation room, professional learning spaces, a wellness room (treadmills, free weights, medicine balls, etc.), flexible office spaces, meeting spaces for special events, and an outdoor patio open to events and classes. In addition to shared-use spaces, the MAHI will house the district’s community engagement departments including HIPPY (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters), PE&CE (Parent Education & Community Involvement), and Adult Education and Literacy (AEL).

Superintendent Hernandez envisioned a unique facility dedicated to supporting the well-being of staff, parents, and students—a space for work, learning, and healing. The MAHI Center brings this vision to life, offering wellness opportunities that benefit both Irving ISD employees and families.
