Grace Clinic, part of the Covenant Health family, is a state-of-the-art facility providing approximately 70 exam rooms, with all necessary support space. The first floor provides clinic space for up to 25 physicians, an imaging center, a laboratory facility, and a pharmacy. The two-story, glass entry on the northeast corner softens the large structure and provides a beacon for the facility. You experience the entire two-story spatial volume, with the second-floor balcony looking down into the lobby. The second floor houses same-day surgery and clinical procedure suites. Warm colors, comfortable furniture, and smart acoustics create a calming atmosphere in private waiting areas. Exam rooms come off a central spine that houses the clinical work areas. It is a large building—a two-story structure with some very critical steel design criteria for the second floor, plus requirements for very high R values in the roof and walls. Phase II of the project included a Surgi-Center with six operating rooms, 17-bed pre-op holding, five GI-Endoscope rooms, and 17-bed recovery. A Starbucks café and pharmacy were also included in the scope. Time was a factor, as ground was broken in late October, and the first-floor clinic and imaging areas opened in November the following year, with the second-floor surgery unit being completed five months later. Opening a 110,000 SF clinic in a year was a pretty daunting task.
